!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Like many of you I waste time looking for cars, this example popped up recently. My wife would love a convertible, however this strikes me as overpriced. Also, are these things remotely reliable?

CP. All of these have low miles too.

Eos’s are nice cars.. essentially a roofless GTI... (although it seems the fuel mapping for it isn’t as aggressive as a gti—)
But they were made in wolfsburg (versus mexico) so very high quality. And the roof system is actually pretty bomber. I spoke with a VW service mgr once about them and he mentioned that in 6-7 years he’d only seen two that needed work on the auto-roof. And both cases were just a simple replacement of a cable that had stretched.
As to the cp or not on the price, not sure what the market’s doing with them right now, but they’re really nice cars if you’re looking for a fun convertible
.

Thanks, the thing that is attractive is the low miles, nice condi tion, and some sort of warranty (likely third party). DCT needs regular maintenance , and at 100k the timing chain. This would be a fourth car, so I’m kinda on the fence.

Not sure where you are located, but you can find Volvo C70's with similar mileage for the same price. They may offer some more standard features and slightly more power. A quick search shows marginally better reliability as well. Plus, I think they look better.

Plus you can put the Volvo's roof in the secret maintenance mode and it looks awesome.

I thought these had a reputation for beibg pretty bad, but I have no actual data on that. Being a 10 y/o VW it is going to have problems, like any 10 y/o car. If you're really interested it'd be worth seeing what the local dealer and independent shops are like. A lot of them can ruin the ownership experience pretty readily through high prices and general assholishness.

CP all day.
While the top mechanism on these are solid, they leak pretty often from what I’ve seen. Also, it’s got the FSI engine.

And the reviews I just read about the VW all make mention of the noise the roof makes. The C70 reviews all comment on how quiet it is...
Now tell me about Secret Maintenance Mode.

One of the ladies my wife works with has C70 convertible she’s looking to sell, she also told me it’s been the most unreliable car she’s ever owned (still tried to convince me to buy it). Evidently the car has been a money pit of epic proportions...

Low miles make 2.0Ts from that era more unreliable, in my opinion. They get all jerky if you don’t dive them enough. Constantly thinking of long trips to take my A4 on because of it. It’s noticeably happier if you drive a lot.

Agreed, my Cayman is like that too. She doesn’t drive very much and has a car already, this wouldn’t be driven all that much..

Well that particular example may not be the one to buy then ... I obviously don’t have a dog in this fight, I was just trying to provide a possible alternative to the Eos. Good luck with the decision, since you are looking at a hard top convertible I would guess you will be haunted by whatever you choose.

I don’t know how to do it, but it is a mode that disables all the safety sensors and stops the top in a position where you can service it. The upshot is it looks cool and is a neat trick at car shows.
Annoyingly I can’t find a picture even though half of them were in that mode at the last Volvo show I went to...

we’re not opposed to soft tops, and thanks for the suggestion. I don’t think we need four cars, but I can’t se em to help myself

my neighbor leased an EOS for three years. said it was the worst car she ever owned. lots of leaks and electrical problems. good luck!

At least there are two of you... I have three and it's just me. Good luck with your search!

Understandable.. if it’s any help- the timing chain service
for my gti (also 2.0t fsi) was under $700. And with only 60K, you’re years from needing that....

CP compared to this.
